Sheilds for DKs.

[:1]I think this is overdue. Death Knights should have sheilds, and have no reason not to, unless the lore does not support it. (I don't know too much about the DK lore) It can be difficult to tank HoTs with only about 44% reduction in damage taken. Some of my guildies say that they had/have about 60% reduction just in normal catas.

But really, with good deathstrikes and proper rune timing (Not even mentioning bloods incredible survivability with things like Anti-Magic shell), I had no trouble surviving HoTs when I was in full 359s after starting up my DK again a few days ago (after not playing him since BWD/BOT).

There may not be a lore reasons (heck the DK in Naxx actually wear shields)

However it has become a 'class flavor' for us to be the more 'aggressive' tanking style as our mitigation is directly tied to hurting our enemies.

Also when Blood Shield is up you have 100% physical mitigation. Shield tanks only get 30-60% mitigation IF they block.
I don't have any difficulty surviving HoTs. The key is learning that Blood DKs tank differently than Protection Warriors and Paladins. We focus on keeping Dodge and Parry ratings at nearly equal levels (to minimize diminishing returns) and maximize Mastery so we have a constant damage absorption shield going.

Your ability to survive doesn't come from mitigating damage, it comes from absorbing it completely and healing what damage you do take.
44% reduction in a 5-man heroic?

Are you even using Death Strike? It sure doesn't sound like it.
These threads don't show up all that often. Personally I prefer the active mitigation of needing to use Death Strike for shielding. Apparently so do the devs because they want to find ways of evolving the other tanks to have to play more actively to stay alive. Such as some tankadins who refer to their rotations as a tank as boring.
Well, all I'm saying is, why not add the option of Shields rather than making it a necessity, maybe in the same way Frost is both 2H and DW.

They probably will not because of a few things.

1. You never see Arthas using a shield (He is the DK we're all based on)
2. You don't see Death Knight npc's using shields.
3. There are two classes that already use tank shields.
4. It would hurt your dps and in the long run the ability to block + death strike shielding would make you overpowered to a point of unkillable.
5. That shield would not save you from the caster mobs that are deadly for ignoring your shields. They're also not blockable.

No reason to be completely abrasive. Sure they are unenchanted and gem'd. There is a lot that needs to be done by them. But to be fair, I tank 5 mans with Gurth just because many times I'm the highest dps in the instance as the tank. I use the Satchels for a chance to give my other characters mounts/pets.
