Trinket choices (DW Frost)

[:1]I have regular Eye of Unmaking and Apparatus. Just picked up LFR Creche. Is Creche really worth replacing Apparatus, or should I hold off for normal Creche/Bone-link Fetish?
if you have heroic apparatus, use that, but if not use creche for the time, but creche kinda sucks for frost as the crit proc gets wasted a lot with KM procs, if you build an unholy set thou its pretty good. i swap my bone-link for creche on tank-n-spank like morchok, ultraxion, warlord
Normal Apparatus. I know crit sucks, which is why I passed the last one that dropped to our tank, who has an arms offspec. Still, EJ ranks it higher than Apparatus and Bone-Link Fetish (although that may just signal that they're equal and used in different situations, like the caster trinkets).

Guess if the normal Creche drops, I'll use that for sure. Bone-Link Fetish has never dropped. Ever.

My Build: "Noob" or "AMGWTFBBQTHATSAWESOME"

[:1]I haven't played my DK much lately but I came up with this tanking build when I logged on..

Reasons behind skills I didn't take:
Hand of Doom: Shouldn't really need to silence to many mobs between Strangulate/Mind Freeze (Plus I have AMS for when I cant silence)
AB Might: Usually someone in the group has the same buff, for no skill points and its purely a DPS increase which I don't really care

Reasons behind skill I did take:
Unholy Command: Quick pace since most of the people out gear HoT instances, quicker DG's equals more control on the battlefield
Desecration: Same as above, DnD>Plague Strike>Enemies are all mine
Epidemic: That way I don't have to individually apply each disease, just Outbreak and profit

I realize this isnt the best raiding build, but would like to know if people would consider this build "viable" which Im goin to use for a few runs later.
Drop a point out of Bladed Armor if you want a more powerful slow.

Personally, I never found Desecration to be worth it. Your AoE threat should be fine, so all the mobs should be attacking you, and you shouldn't be moving, so none of the mobs should be moving, either. Putting down a Desecration also costs a DS.

Glyph of DS does more single target damage than RS/HS (HS is lowest).

Glyph Rune Tap. There's no reason not to.
Ah, thanks for the insights!

So, Outbreak isnt going to put down a Dese?

Edit:
Well that took the wind out of my sails, I was figuring that Outbreak would throw it down since the spell was applied, but not so much huh?
Only Plague Strike and Necrotic Strike place down Desecration, both of which cost an unholy rune.

Where have all the green Tauren gone?

[:1]Represent!

Because we're big, and we're beautiful, and...gosh darn it, because we're green!
Wow, no green tauren coming to show their pride? Stuff them, we'll just be green together.
sup
:( Aw... You're lonely, aren't you?

Sorry, I'm not even a green ELF, but I feel for ya.

unholy dk how much haste is to much

[:1]Im sitting at exactly 1800 haste and rune speed is 7.62sec how much is to much?
keep going.
You'll be needing more for a WHILE.

2600 is the second soft cap. But a lot of the HM BiS stuff doesn't have haste on it, and you'll often find yourself foregoing haste for more STR (ex. trinkets).
If I go with what's flatly recommended with wowreforge, it has me sitting at around 2K haste and 1750ish mastery. I have hardly any deadspots in my rotation this way, especially with 2set/ams to provide extras.

If you manage your resources properly, anything higher than 1800 haste is fine.

Does anyone think that Gnaw should be free?

[:1]...Because it's got its one-min CD already. There are enough obstacles as is between giving the order to fire it, and having it fire off on time.

Consider Felguard's pet stun in comparison, being ranged, is far more wieldy and on-demand.
Consider Hammer of Justice, which stuns your target as soon as you want and can be on a shorter CD.
Consider Shadowfury. It's also a spec-specific ranged stun; except when you place it, the effect is immediate, rather than several seconds after the demanded window.
Not free, But off the GCD. Or both idc really just wish it was easier to use.
Unbreak the ghoul saving 30 energy and I'll be happy w/ that even if its on the GCD.
It should just be brought into line with the main special ability of other pets in the game. Hunter pets special abilities don't cost the pet's energy, lock and mage pet specials cost mana and they don't go oom, so that isn't an issue for them either. It should be free and off the global. Gotta work around it though sadly.

Addon:Tracking non-targeted diseases and DnD?

[:1]Which addon do you guys use? I guess this could also be rephrased to 'For tracking Multi-Target AoE spells.'

The three I'm aware of that do this is Ellipsis, Raven, and a portion of the CLC addon. I'm just wondering if there's any lightweight addons specifically for this purpose or if there are others out there. I haven't had a chance to mess with Raven yet, but it appears to be somewhat similar to Power Auras Classic but with an allegedly more complicated setup process. As far as I can tell PAC cannot track diseases on all non-targeted mobs, it only allows enumerations of Target, Focus, and their targets.

CLC is a last resort option for me as the only portion I want to use from it is its DoT timers for non-targeted mobs, and I wasn't super happy with its implementation. I haven't had a chance to try Ellipsis yet but I'm hoping it does just what I need it to.

The main thing I'm looking to know is how successful my pestilence was for AoE purposes, and it would be nice to see which mobs my DnD is hitting.

Thanks
Yeah I'm trying to decide whether I want to switch my tracking up. From back in my lock days, I have a familiarity with DoTimer. I don't think it's had much updating done to it in a long time, but it still works for me. I whitelist Frost Fever and Blood Plague to the main DoTimer anchor and put it on the right side of my screen. I also create a custom PlayerAuras anchor for Blood Shield, and put it under my IceHud stuff. It's a handy quick-view of whether your blood shield is up, and how long it has left. DoTimer will give you timer bars for everything you have diseases on. I enjoy spreading diseases and watching the entire strip of timer bars on the right hand side of the screen light up :-)

If anyone has a simple way to do the same thing with PA or a better addon, I'm interested too.
Tidyplates can show diseases above nameplates, I'm assuming that DnD could be included on that. It's not 100% smart, and you usually have to hover or scroll your mouse over each mob for it to detect if the spread was successful, but I don't find that too much of an issue.
Thanks, I saw some of those types mentioned but I guess what I'm looking for is one that will just parse the combat log to let me know how many mobs my debuffs have landed on, ideally in a list form so I know to keep AoEing or if I might need to reapply Pestilence. Ellipsis looks like it can do this without much other bloat, so I'm hoping this will be the one I can use. Raven is another option but I'm not sure if it's meant to replace Power Auras or compliment it.

I can try out something like TidyPlates, but even if I manage to mouseover all of the NPCs I won't have a list or quick reference to see the number infected.
Tidyplates shows diseases without your mousing over. It's pretty bad at handling DoT refreshes though, at least for my lock.
So far Raven seems to be doing what I want very well. Raven seems to complement Power Auras Classic by offering customizable timer/cast bars with similar rules to PAC. From what I've seen in Power Auras, it does a great job of adding aura effects but I don't think it can do timer bars.

Which Trinket should I use? Blood DK

[:1]I have Heroic Indomitable Pride but I was wondering what my next best in slot trinket would be Soulshifter vortex or Resolve of Undying? And also should I use normal resolve or normal soulshifter?
Trinkets are something that you will change based on the fight really. My "normal" setup is Heroic Scales of Life + Fires of the Deep, but I also keep Vial of Stolen Memories, Spidersilk spindle, and Stay of Execution in my bags on an "as needed" type basis.

But saying all that, I can't really see a time where I would ever use Resolve of the Undying.
BiS trinket for use is subjective as it can and does change from fight to fight.
DPS trinkets for every fight leading up to Blackhorn. Fires / Pride for Blackhorn, Pride / Vortex for the last two.

Actually you could probably get away with DPS trinkets for Spine, too.
Changes depending on the fight, but for a general purpose setup I'd use Heroic Indomitable Pride and Fire of the Deep.

Death Strike question

[:1]I had trouble finding an answer with search, so unfortunately I'm cluttering up this poor forum :(

It's mentioned in the Unholy PvP guide that Death Strike will still provide the healing component, even if used against a Hunter with Deterrence. Are there other "immunities" where this holds true?
Death Strike now always grants it's healing independently of the strike landing.
Wonderful :) Thank you.

Heroic Hand of Morchok vs Normal Gurthalak

[:1]I been wonder about this for Frost DW vs UH 2H. I am not sure which one more damage if I take double 410 ilvl heroic hand of morchok for frost dw and it will more damage than UH with 403 ilvl Gurthalak? I am really very good with frost dw and UH 2H too. Please let me know what your think.
you're "really very good" at both but can't make an informed decision on which you do better with. ok..
Both of those weapons are the best you'll get for each spec. Figure out which one you want to play more and stick with it.
Try simming it, I would guess dw 410s would be better.

Blood DK RBG Tanking?

[:1]I am wondering if I should take the time to work on my DK for RBG Tanking, or if its a setback for the entire team not using a warrior.

How much hit and expertise

[:1]Like the title says i am wondering how much hit and expertise i need for blood tanking.
I have looked on the blood guide and not sure if i am missing it or have just overlooked.
thx in advance for any help greatly appreciated.
It's there. Read it again.
- Depending on personal preference, get enough Hit to ensure Outbreak will never miss.
- Expertise can be ignored entirely.

New 85 Deathnight help

[:1]I just hit 85 and im not sure when to duel wield and when to use a two handed weapon?

Im planning on pvping not what spec yet

and pve both tank and dps

edit: my picture still says 84 but i am 85 haha
Well, 2hand will allow you to be Blood / Frost / Unholy, and DW allows you to be frost.

Your choice.
Just go blood, use whatever you want, greens, greys, w/e. You won't die.
allright thanks =)
Kossan is absolutely right, look at this thread

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3764579288

Im in questing greens wrecking PvP, I do the same in PvE.

Just slap on whatever you want, We're flavor of the year, enjoy the balance! <3

And before anyone says 2200 ARENA OR NO OPINION, LEARN TO PLAY THIS COMPLEX CLASS

Its a lie, 95% of the Dk population are flavor of the year re-rollers who only defend their class because they are on the top of the hill.

Stay free Deathknights
blue best for pvp because you kill them befor they can kill you

Best 2v2 partner for Unholy DK

[:1]Hi DKs!
My main is a rogue obviously, but my good friend plays a DK (Unholy Spec). As a 2v2 team rogue/dk we cant seem to make it past 1400 even though we both pretty geared...

Was thinking of rolling an alt anyways since this is my only guy over 60 ever, and I figured I might as well roll something so we can dominate 2s...

Im thinking healer class but which? Pally? priest? Druid? Shaman?

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks DKs!
imo shaman or priest. if you have a priest expect to lose to other DK teams. if you have a shaman expect to lose to warrior teams.

Priests are the most offensive healers, but DKs destroy Disc because Disc is about absorb damage - where as Necrotic strike chips away at their healing (which isn't THAT great outside of penance). Therefore it's relatively easy for a DK to solo a priest. Mana burn, double fear, mind spike + mindblast does quite a bit of damage.

Shamans on the other hand don't have that much offensive damage - LB hits for like 2-3k which is pitiful with its cast time and LvB is I think around 4k.
Check out Finalrequiem. He' a dk with a rogue partner and they are a high rated 2s team. If ur both well geared like u say, it's probably a strat issue. good luck

Pally healers are great for dks. So are shamans and druids.
i run disc/frost at 2200ish depending on circumstance and comp.
I've ran every healer except resto shammy, so far best experience is priest.
My friend who's a frost mage and I do okay for ourselves, we mostly only lose to shadow priests, or double warrior.
For me it's a tie between shammy & druid, both work very well.
Thanks for the input guys.

I see Finalreqs team but they are fully purpled. I should have clarified i have only 2 purple armors (+ the 3 weps of course). So that might work out well once we get more vicious.

Still want to roll a healer and Basically it sounds like any healer will work... just trying to pick which one I wont mind leveling to 85... Leaning Priest or Pally right now.
I've had decent success running unholy/shadow priest. It's a pressure team, for sure.

Still in the lower ratings though so I can't speak for its success at the higher ratings, personally.
the teams i have had the best luck with are, holly pali, resto druid, enhan shami, and disc.
enhan shami was my favorite one because with the two of us we killed then in seconds.
For double DPS probably Retribution Paladin, for healer/DPS probably Disc Priest.

Unholy 4 set worth it?

[:1]Is the Dk's 4 set for unholy, really that amazing?? And can it stack over it self or does it refresh??? Can runic corruption proc the 4 set the same time runic empowerment procs the 4 set or is it one or the other????
im having trouble understanding what you are asking.

so ill guess
4 sets mastery bonus does not stack over and over upon itself it just refreshes the buff should it proc again before it falls off.

runic corruption replaces runic empowerment entirely so im confused by your 2nd question.
lol its ok you answered my questions
but how good is the 4 set?
Well... its better than not having it? 700 mastery vs 0 extra mastery. Id say its pretty good?
shrader why you so !@#$ing bad bro next time ask me that not like i dont know this xD <3 you man

DK fail.... Help!

[:1]Alright, I've been playin this DK for about a month now after quitting the game for close to two years. Simply put, I fail. I can't kill squat and when I fight other DK's it's not even close, I just get murdered! I know my gear isn't special but maybe there's some underlying problems I'm not seeing spec, gem, glyph, etc. wise. I can take the bashing so don't sugar coat it. Besides me just being horrible, what can I do character wise to help myself?
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1920716371 go to this thread and read through it.

Personally I don't pvp, but just by looking at your character audit you don't have any enchants which is going to effect you severely. You're gemming for and reforging for your worst stat as well (crit). Don't do that. Get rid of that nightmare tear too.

Beyond that, go read the thread.
Awesome, gotcha. Thx!
Yeah you're gear and reforging needs a lot of work but a good guide will help you there. However, you can have all the right enchants, reforge everything perfectly and still fail because...

Skill > Gear

Once you have an understanding of your own class works, you need to able to know when to apply those abilities. To do this, you need to have a understanding of how other classes work.

A lot of people hate on dueling because baddies will brag about how great they are despite the fact that PVP isn't balanced around 1v1 (or 2v2 for that matter). Despite this, dueling is probably the easiest way to become familiar with other class abilities, and become familiar with your own class.

Not sure if anyone else does this.

Thanks for all of your assistance on this class forum Euliat =x
Its a shame how so many better death knights have already left these forums in disgust.

Struggling with DPS

[:1]Hi all

frost spec in unholy presence
still need a head + shoulder chant
diseases always up, priority to OBL etc

barely making 20k in H Twighlight Dungeons
17 - 18k in LFR
16 - 17k in 10M DS
16k vs Aliz in BH20

is it just a matter of me needing higher igear (raid) atm sitting on 380/381

not sure what to do as i find it a little embaressing to be so low without understanding why....

thanks
Your hit and exp are capped which is good...good that you keep diseases up, but try and have a mix of howling blast and oblits in there, you will find it will help your dps.

Make sure you work on that haste, the more the haste the better :) Also a little more mastery wouldn't go astray either.

Remember it goes str > hit (to cap) > exp (to cap) > haste (as much as you can muster!) > mastery/crit :D

Use askmrrobot.com also to help with some reforges if your ever stuck :D

Do you use flasks/pots as-well to boost dps?

My advice is just keep practicing man :) You will get there, also make sure you aren't using any uncessary abilities other then your diseases, frost strike, howling blast and oblits, also make sure ur horn of winter is always up and when your ghoul is available summon it also.
yeah whenever HB procs i throw it down, same with OBL and FS (OBL with priority over FS)

elixir i use is Elixir of Mighty Speed (wrong one / right one?)

and occasionally Golemblood potion when its needed

goul is also out when possible

horn of winter is always up
Actually, your reforges and talents are off.

Strength > Yellow Hit cap (8%) > Expertise Cap (26) > Haste > Mastery > Crit

Other then that,
1. Diseases
2. Obliterate if both FU pairs and/or DD are up, or if KM is procced
3. Frost Strike if RP capped
4. Rime
5. Obliterate
6. Frost Strike
7. Howling Blast
Use the elixir of titanic strength mate :)

Yes, your hit is a little high, but not much you can do with the gear you have at the moment.

You can reforge some of that crit to haste if you want, but no biggie.

If you want, have a look at my talents mate, I think I do rather well in terms of DPS/damage. Always reforge into haste if you can too :) As long as hit and exp are capped of course. Mastery is always 2nd to haste :D
Use the elixir of titanic strength mate :)

Speaking of hit, your hit and expertise is a little higher then what it should be.

http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/gear/usa/caelestrasz/kadajj
I am aware of this :D I have reforged all the hit I can off from what I can see from memory and my exp is slightly higher :P There are a couple of things I can change, but nothing that is too drastic that its affecting me greatly - Thanks though.

Askmrrobot is a fine tool to use but I do not use it religiously, it actually advises you that haste > exp. I realise you can change this, but to someone who does not understand the basic's, it could be confusing.

But, lets get back to helping out this chap shall we, as he is the one that has made the thread asking for assistance :)

I have to ask..

Why do you have your Heroic Morchok axe in your off hand , and your Normal Morchok axe in your main hand?
Hey Aziker,

Silly mistake :D I meant to fix it next time I logged in but am at work >.> Heroic HoM meant to be mainhand, norm off hand :) Cheers :)

MoP Frost Presence

[:1]Just a quick comparison:

(Now) Frost Presence- Strengthens you with the presence of Frost, increasing damage by 10% and increasing Runic Power generation by 10%. Only one Presence may be active at a time, and assuming a new Presence will consume any stored Runic Power

Buffed- Increases your bonus damage while in Frost Presence by an additional 5%. In addition, while in Blood Presence or Unholy Presence, you retain 4% increased Runic Power generation from Frost Presence

(MoP) Frost Presence- Strengthens you with the presence of Frost, increasing Runic Power generation by 100% and increasing your maximum Runic Power by 30.

Note: There is no "Improved Frost Presence" for Frost Spec (or an Improved Unholy either). So with these changes, anyone else feel like Fost Presence just went naked without the dmg bonus? Sure the 100% Runic Power is great but we still have no decrease in GCD (idk, .25 would be great), but most of all, they're taking away the dmg buff from it? Why would you do that Blizzard? Can't you add even 5% dmg (2% even) bonus so it doesn't seem so naked? Just add something to make an "improved frost presence" so we can go back to it and not Unholy Presence since that hasn't changed at all. So Blizard, please fix this for all that are frosty and chilled..
Cata != MoP.

They're revamping the entire talent system. You have two options :

1. Assume every second change made is a nerf and post about it on the forums.

2. Wait until closer to release, get some hard numbers to crunch and make calculated assumptions on our performance after the change are made.

PS: No, I don't feel like Frost Presence in it's new form is 'naked'. A glyph has been introduced to retain half of our RP when switching presences. Seems to me like they want us to switch presence on a situational basis, which sounds cool.
Frost presence won't be "naked". The +100% RP generation will be required and will be the primary effect of frost presence. No Chill to the Grave and far lower haste values won't allow you to function properly in unholy presence.

Muhuhahaha!

[:1]I'm in Northrend with exp. turned off gearing up with wotlk stuff through quests and dungeons. Im gonna get all the superior gear I need and have a golden pvp level mowing down everyone with the normal 8k for this bracket.... lol I'm 13.5k unbuffed. This is gonna be fun when I get everything i need.... maybe some enchants. I will be second only to the BC geared pvpers with full gems! :( lol not many of those though. Wish me luck... or not. Let the trolling begin........
Also, any tips on other things I can do to make myself better? I think I'm pretty set. My DS crits for 7k and heartstrike for about 4k. Enchant recommendations?
If by "BC geared players" you mean kids running around in gemmed brutal gear, that doesn't start until level 70.

If you really want to destroy bg's do the following:

1. level to 79
2. Replace all of your gear with cata-greens
3. Laugh as your health pool and damage have literally doubled (or more)
4. ???
5. Profit.

change that to 78* turn off exp the second you ding and have a friend run you thru brc and throne of tides... get all the 278 greens for other slots... spec blood and have fun pvping for 2 full levels.

I felt like a raid boss. it was some of the most fun I've had.

Meaning you get 2 levels to enjoy being a god.
Gotcha.

From my understanding I thought the OP wanted to twink out his DK so I said 79 for obvious reasons lol...
By "BC geared players" I meant those few people that run endlessly thorugh BC dungeons for tanking gear, then fully gem it.... with the result being about 20k health at 69. This I have seen only very rarely, and have faced it only once. It was a 69 gnome blood dk with 22k health and he absolutely wrecked anyone near him. Even I in my 67ness could only face him for 10sec before he ate all my health.

Yeah I'm aware of the 79 twinks, don't know if I'm gonna do that yet. Sounds fun though....

Any advice for my current situation?

MoP Scent of Blood

[:1]Scent of Blood: Reworked: Your successful main-hand auto attacks have a chance to increase the healing and minimum healing done by your next Death Strike within 20 sec by 15%, and to generate 10 Runic Power. This effect stacks up to 5 times.

It explicitly states main hand. Does this mean DW might come back for tanking? Or will they pull the mainhand out of the tooltip down the road
Attacking with a 2H is considered a main-hand attack.

What it's actually doing is capping the return from SoB for DW, making SoB weaker for DW (relative to uncapped and proccing off either hand).
What Euliat said, this is yet another nail in DW tankings already well sealed casket.

Its dead, move on.
killing one of the few points dw tanking had an argument for existing.

i approve blizz
It says main hand because it would proc off both main and off hand otherwise. Sudden doom for unholy had that problem at start and made it machine gun deathcoils and ghoul transformations. Since frost is the intended dual wield spec, they converted it to main hand only, which lead to poor strike damage and no where near as many procs.

Kinda wish they do to us what they did to warriors to hammer it home. From vanilla to wrath, all specs of warriors could dual wield (actually got duel wield arms and prot wars before). When cata came they removed it baseline and gave it to fury as a spec bonus.
on the other side

if Sudden Doom and Scent of Blood were to share the proc mechanics of KM - yes, DW would very much be viable - at least, thats what happend to DW unholy before the 'nerfbat' hits on sudden doom

add on some other adjustments like certain attacks deals with offhand, or even extra damage on RP dump while DW - hey, it functions exactly like frost

killing one of the few points dw tanking had an argument for existing.

and i approve having bikini plate as a perfectly acceptable public appearance in a teen-rated game

my problem is - if they intend to make DW frost only, they might as well leave that alone instead tacking on some 2H function and calling it 'fixed'

and yes - if they insist on making DW being the frost 'flavor', sure. why not just give them TG and gave out an actual 2H DPS spec that doesn't need to tack on extra pet handling?

if balacing DW/2H across the trees are 'that' hard to carry out - fine, make DW being Frost only

BUT give us an ACTUAL 2H DPS option. and no, your efforts on 2H Frost/Unholy still leave many bitter in their mouths

we just dont like the feel of either options, plain and simple
