LFR Gurthalak vs Teir 1 2H as unholy

[:1]Witch would be better for a unholly dk, LFR Gurthalak with mastry or a teir 1 wep?
What the Christ is a "teir 1 wep"?
He probably means the tier 1 pvp weapon for this season.

I dueled a couple of my restro shaman friends with both the tier 1 and LFR gurthalak a few weeks ago. Gurthalak's did seem to put out significantly more pressure and be more difficult to heal through, so it's probably the better choice for dk/shaman 2s where you're the only one doing significant damage.

DKs tend to be pretty squishy, though, and are often the focus targets for double-dps comps and in 3s. If you're running with a dps partner, a more offensive healer (priest) or in 3s with another dps that can serve as the hammer blow during burst periods, having more resilience from the pvp weapon is probably more beneficial.

With a holy paladin, I could see it going either way, but I think I'd go for more damage with Gurthalak's since a BoP can typically save you from being blown up by a rogue/mage or rogue/ret opener.
I prefer the Tier 1 PvP weapon over the LFR Gurthalak for a couple reasons:

For one thing, every little bit of Resilience counts for us DKs, we're pretty squishy. The Tier 1 weapon is rated at around 888 DPS, while LFR Gurthalak is rated at around 832 DPS. LFR Gurthalak also has less Strength, Stamina, and no secondary stats. Gurthalak's proc is RNG-based and has a fairly low proc-chance (2%), so it doesn't proc very often, and in a lot of matches it doesn't proc at all. Even when it does, the proc isn't game-changing.

I was very torn between the two weapons when I first looted Gurthalak in LFR, so I did a bunch of test runs on a dummy to see if the increase in DPS, Strength, and secondary stats that the Tier 1 weapon offered really made that much of a difference in terms of my damage output. After sitting at a dummy punching keys for awhile, I concluded that the Tier 1 weapon showed a noticeable difference in consistent damage output, and that hoping that Gurthalak would proc for me in a match just wasn't worth it. I stubbornly decided to go ahead and try arenas with Gurth anyways, just to see, and I was severely disappointed. Switching back to the Tier 1 weapon really helped.

That being said, I will probably switch to the 403 Gurthalak when I get my hands on it, as it has a better DPS rating (939.2) and more Strength/Stamina than the Tier 1 weapon.
He's got a PvE spec so he's likely talking about raiding guys, not PvP.

@OP: Comparing the LFR Gurth to a Tier 1, with LFR Gurth your weapon damage and strength is lower and you have no secondary stats to reforge. But the difference is negligible considering the proc you get with Gurth, especially considering that the proc benefits from our mastery.
It is however, completely RNG based. You might get 6 procs at once and get crazy burst or you may not get any procs at all. But from what I've read, all Gurths are BiS anyway.
Sure, for PvE, I would use LFR Gurthalak over the Tier 1 Conquest weapon any day. You have WAY more up-time on PvE bosses than you would on enemy players in PvP, so Gurth is all but guaranteed to proc at least a couple of times, and the added stats from PvE gear allow you to actually stack some Mastery after stacking a solid amount of Haste (as opposed to PvP gear, which really only allows you to focus on stacking Haste to any sizable amount), making Gurth's procs do a lot more damage.

For PvP, I'd stick with the Tier 1 weapon until I got my hands on the 403 Gurthalak.
I'd use LFR Gurth for pve or pvp.
